Miltec Modular Sleeping Bag Cover — Flecktarn

The Miltec Modular Sleeping Bag Cover is a three-layer outer shell designed to protect any sleeping bag from moisture and the elements. At 240 cm in length and 100 cm at the shoulder, it fits the vast majority of standard sleeping bags. It is intended as the outermost layer of the Miltec modular system but works equally well paired with other bags.

The three-layer construction — outer polyamide shell, polyester membrane, and polyester inner lining — is waterproof yet breathable: body moisture escapes outward while rain and snow stay out. This balance is the critical factor in any bivy cover. A fully waterproof solution without breathability traps condensation inside and wets the bag from within. The narrowed footbox, 72 cm wide, limits heat loss in the most exposed section.

The two-way zip on the left side lets you open the cover from either the head or the foot end, which is useful for ventilation or getting out quickly without removing the whole bag. The hidden zip baffle and the combined wide-button-and-Velcro closures at the head end retain warmth and block wind at the join points. One trade-off worth noting: a bivy cover in Flecktarn camouflage reduces your visual signature in the field but adds a layer to manage when setting up and breaking camp, slowing things down slightly compared to an integrated waterproof bag. Whether you prioritise modularity and system flexibility or outright simplicity comes down to your own operational needs.

• Combined wide-button and Velcro closures at the head end reduce heat loss at the most vulnerable points of the shell.
