The Miltec lightstick is a single-use chemical light source, 15 cm long and 1 cm in diameter, designed for signalling, night navigation and position marking in situations where a torch is impractical or undesirable. Passive, silent light with no electromagnetic emissions: a baseline requirement for professional operators, hunters on night stalks and anyone working in environments where light must be kept low and directed.
Activation is straightforward — bend and shake the stick: contact between the two internal reagents triggers the chemical reaction that produces blue light for 8–12 hours continuously, with no battery, no switches and no risk of sudden failure. Output is stable from activation through to reagent exhaustion, with no sharp drops in between. The casing is waterproof, meaning it works in rain, when wading or in high-humidity conditions without any additional precautions.
The trade-off is the one common to all single-use chemical light sources: once activated, the reaction cannot be stopped and the lightstick cannot be reused. Anyone planning to use it for only part of the night should bear in mind that it will keep glowing until fully spent. In return, there is no dependence on external power sources, and the device does not degrade in storage over time, retains its effectiveness and has no mechanical parts that can fail.
