The Tramontane WindPack is an ultralight windbreaker from Helikon-Tex designed for those who operate in the field and need a packable windproof layer always within reach. Weighing around 180 g in size L and made from 100% nylon at 40 g/m², it packs into its own chest pocket and disappears into a rucksack or trouser cargo pocket without adding bulk.

The WindPack Nylon fabric with a DWR (Durable Water Repellency) finish repels splashes and light precipitation without trapping body moisture: it is a water-resistant, not waterproof, material — and that distinction matters when choosing your kit. It works best as a mid layer over a breathable base layer, or as an outer shell when wind is the main issue and rain is absent or light. In sustained rainfall, a dedicated waterproof shell should be added on top.

The regular fit and adjustable hood allow it to be worn directly over insulation or a combat shirt without the collar shifting during movement. The adjustable hem and elasticated cuffs seal the openings without Velcro or additional zips, reducing wear points on an already very light garment. The full-length zip allows quick donning and doffing even with gloves on.

Key features

  • Weight of approximately 180 g (size L): barely noticeable in a pack and always ready when conditions change.
  • Packs into its own integrated pocket, removing the need for a separate stuff sack.
  • DWR finish repels splashes; intended as a windproof layer, not as a substitute for a waterproof shell in heavy rain.
  • Adjustable hood and adjustable hem let you tailor the fit to your current layering without unwanted loosening.
  • Elasticated cuffs seal the wrist without Velcro, reducing snag risk and noise during movement.
  • Full-length zip for fast on and off, even with kit in hand.
