Miltec Lightstick — Red

The Miltec chemical lightstick is a self-contained and silent light source, 15 cm long with a diameter of 1 cm, designed for signalling, night-time navigation and marking reference points in complete darkness. It requires no battery or electrical ignition, and is waterproof when submerged.

Activation is achieved by bending the stick to break the inner ampoule and shaking it to mix the reagents: the red light starts within a few seconds, generating no heat, sparks or noise. Red light is less visible at distance than white or green, making it better suited to tactical and hunting use when you want to limit signalling to those in the immediate vicinity.

The 8–12 hour runtime covers an entire night's operation without needing to worry about the light source. The key trade-off to be aware of is that once activated, the lightstick cannot be switched off or reused: the full runtime is consumed in a single session, meaning it should only be deployed when genuinely needed. The lanyard included in the packaging allows it to be attached to a pack, a fence or the inside of a bivouac.
