The stiffened, drawcord-adjustable collar keeps the opening stable even under stress, allowing single-handed insertion of multiple rifle or pistol magazines in rapid succession.

The trade-off is the one inherent to any open-top dump pouch: the absence of a retention catch makes insertion nearly instinctive and retrieval equally fast, but the contents are held only by the collar's shape and gravity. In competition, that is exactly what you need; in situations involving rough terrain or sharp body rotations, a closing retention system would offer more security. This is a deliberate design choice oriented toward match speed.

The mesh bottom prevents sand and debris from building up inside — a common problem in outdoor competitions on dusty ground.
